Amazing 53 Year Old Sealed Bottle Garden Hasn’t Been Watered in 40 Years!

Bottle Garden - Terrarium

53 years ago in 1960, David Latimer planted a bottle garden and only watered it once, and in 1972 and sealed it up. He periodically moves it so it can receive more light from a nearby window so it grows more evenly. The bottle garden is basically a completely self sufficient miniature ecosystem.

How a Bottle Garden Works

“…A bottle garden has the essential requirements of soil and water for the survival of plants that are housed in it, as well as a reservoir of water, as water is trapped inside the bottle and unable to evaporate. The carbon dioxide from plantrespiration is used for photosynthesis, and the oxygen from photosynthesis is used for respiration.[2] As such they require almost no maintenance…” ~Wikipedia
