Last year Tesla announced their solar roof project with tiles that look like regular roofing tiles, albeit the higher end options such as terracotta and slate, which can produce solar energy at 98% of the capacity as traditional panels without standing out like regular solar panels. Tesla is also aiming to have the tiles cost less than a standard roof of similar tile designs even before you factor in the savings from your electric bill. Well, they are finally taking orders starting next month. Starting in April 2017 you can order the Tesla solar tiles and the Tesla Powerwall 2 that will store the energy they will generate.
While prices aren’t publicly known yet, we should know more about that once orders open up and people put down their deposits. They will be manufactured at their Buffalo NY, plant in conjunction with Panasonic. Once more information, such as prices, becomes known we’ll do an update. Until then, if you have been waiting for the solar roof, the wait is almost over.
