Greenhouse Garden Shed Doubles as a Tiny Lakeside Retreat

Sharing is caring!

Overlooking a lake in Finland, this prefab greenhouse doubles as a beautiful tiny retreat for designer Linda Bergroth. The greenhouse shed concept is the result of a collaboration between Bergroth and Helsinki, Finland architect Ville Hara to design an easy-to-assemble greenhouse with an attached garden shed.

Made from Finnish pine and tough safety glass, these greenhouses are made to be durable yet easy to install. They come ready to assemble with nothing more than a screwdriver. The shed attached to the end of the greenhouse opens fully and holds garden tools and other necessities while hiding clutter.

Linda Bergroth customized her prototype shed to create a stunning lakeside haven complete with a wood floor, lights powered by a solar panel, and brick steps outside the door. Hers is beautifully tailored for relaxation while enjoying a full view of the lake and surrounding woods.

The sheds can be purchased in modules, allowing buyers to customize the size of both the shed and the greenhouse. The ceiling panels on the greenhouse can easily be opened to control airflow and temperature. The wall supports are equipped to hold two types of folding shelves: glass shelves for plants and wooden shelves for other storage uses. The shelves are removable to maximize floor space for storing larger items or for establishing a living space, as Bergroth has done.

This shed/greenhouse design was launched in 2010 and was awarded the Garden Product of the Year award. It is available through Kekkilä Garden in Finland and Hasselfors Garden in other Scandinavian countries. In countries where it is unavailable for purchase, it serves as an inspirational concept for DIYers and builders looking to create a gorgeous and functional combined greenhouse and shed.
